Many non-profits pay their employees from different funding sources -- often more than one. The funding sources often require reports on these expenses
A single paycheck for a job position may have to be allocated to several funding sources. For hourly workers, the allocated amounts can change with each paycheck
It can be a nightmare to calculate all of these allocations manually, to sum them up by GL account, and then to transmit the GL account totals to the accounting system. Many organizations try to skip this task in various ways or resort to complicated error-prone Excel spreadsheets.
Our Fund Allocation System handles most of this work automatically. We keep tables showing how the wages for each job position should be allocated - by fund, project, department, etc. Then we import the payroll from ADP, compute all the allocation breakdowns, and transmit the General Ledger subtotals to the accounting system. We can even easily re-class (make adjustments to) previously allocated payrolls and import them to your accounting system.
